Meteorite Classification Proxy Services
X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis is usually sufficient to identify if a sample is a meteorite or not, but a more precise mineral specific elemental analysis by Electron Microprobe (EMP), along with a more sophisticated write-up of the analysis results, are required for full classification of any meteorite, for identification of certain types of achondrites, and for the ultimate submission of the write-up to the Meteoritical Society's Nomenclature Committee for official name and publication in the Meteoritical Bulletin.
Geo Labs works with top meteoritical research institutions in the US, Canada and Europe to provide these EMP services. We act as your proxy to navigate the often times confusing process of interfacing with these institutions, eliminating the guesswork, false starts, and wasted time and money.
Geo Labs provides the following services as your proxy: Identification of the most appropriate institution for the analysis and classification, sample cutting and preparation, pre-submission vetting of the specimen (required)
Geo Labs is not currently accepting new sample submissions for this service at this time. Please check back soon, as we hope to continue to provide this service in the near future. We are currently providing XRF meteorite identification and general analysis services.
